I was wondering if the Z68 mobo will support 8GB sticks. Given the price tendency I might get myself 4*8 1600.

And no, before you ask: I don't play, use windows, or turn off my PC every day; so the more cache for my huge compilation jobs, the better!

Ie as an example, Android now /requires/ 16GB ram to compile it...

What version of windows do you intend to use?

I don't run windows, I run from windows.

yes I have the board, it has 16GB already and it's dandy. Since it's sandy bridge, memory speed/amount is not correlated to max CPU clock so it won't affect the overclock.

And no, I haven't read the manual, I don't even know if there was one, and I certainly didn't look for it :-)

Not really, I can buy two SB Z68 setups for the price of one X79; and the X58 is more or less obsolete now with that socket...

My current assumption is that these 8GB modules /should/ work.. And at around ~£140 for a set of 4, it's starting to look pretty interesting!

FYI this machine has rebooted "recently":
$ uptime
11:36:03 up 7 days, 11:26, 3 users
$ cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 16375140 kB
MemFree: 297024 kB
Buffers: 942428 kB
Cached: 13083896 kB

Thats 14GB of buffers. there are some build phases where it barely touches the disk at all, even tho it's accessing/creating countless files. But I want moar! :-)
