Hey all,

I am looking to upgrade a few bits on my PC as i am playing Planetside 2 and it isn't coping to well with some of the bigger battles (not surprisingly)

I am going to replace my motherboard, processor and graphics card.

I am currently running with:

Gigabyte S-series ep35c-ds3r
Intel core 2 duo E8400 3ghz
ATI Radeon HD4850

i have a very small budget of around £275 excluding shipping and was looking at getting:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-514-AS

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-430-IN

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-104-GI

The GPU i had no idea about it just kind of fits the price range and seems okay but there is a hell of a lot of different looking similar cards these days is very confusing.

Currently i have a 700w x-power psu would this be enough?

Tbh i am well out of the loop these days so the items i choose might be rubbish but they seemed okay to me with my very limited knowledge.

The price is slightly flexible and i went with the more expensive intel and nvidia because i heard that Planetside 2 runs a lot better on those cards and processors, if that is a load of rubbish then i would be fine with AMD and ATI.

I badly need some help from the guys here as i am a bit lost! :)

Look forward to your response and thanks for reading ;)

i havent played it only seen it being played so hm
problem with nvidia right now is they have no good budget cards
they still due to come out

that card i doubt would be much better than what you have they so bad

Thanks for your quick response guys =)

i amended my post it is a x-power 700w psu (was my old one that was 650w)

the gpu was only a hd4850

which still seems a a lot better than the gt640 just really looking for an upgrade if possible around the £100 mark.

this will be my last upgrade for a while if only a small one so doubtful an i5 will be coming my way any time soon. =(

Well your system meets the minimum requirements: http://wiki.planetside-universe.com/ps/PlanetSide_2#Minimum_System_Requirements

But I would probably upgrade the CPU/MB/RAM first, then the GPU at a later date. I would be tempted to replace the PSU too, X-power is not a reliable brand, it may say 700w but that may only be the peak wattage and not the actual wattage...

Can you stretch to this?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £81.98
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £31.19
Total : £309.56 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Right ok after some talk with the bank manager (The Misses) i have managed to talk her into us upping it to £360 as from what i can see i need to spend that bit extra to get something worth while so i could stretch to that and a new psu too.

which one would you recommend? =)

As you can see I agree with orcvader ;)

Remember the Z77 mobo has lucid MVP so the IGP can be used to boost the GPU i.e your 4850 GPU. The IB i5K has the better IGP which is also used for quicksync, which speeds up video encoding tasks (depending on software). As you have the Z77 you can overclock the CPU as well.

The PSU has ample power for a single GPU setup. It's fully modular so it's easy to remove it completely from the case to clean. As the cables are modular you dont end up with a mess of cables blocking airflow. Better airflow equals better temps which means you can overclock easier. It is a luxury but very handy to have especially in small cases.

If you sold off your old mobo bundle you could consider getting an aftermarket heatsink so you could reach higher overclocks. Hope this helps

Thanks loads for your advice guys i am totally sold on the psu cpu and motherboard =)

The ram is another total mystery to me though i am pretty sure i will go with your recommendation but what makes it the best choice? i see so many other sticks looking pretty much the same and it makes me curious to the main difference, is it the reliability of the manufacturer? or some speed that i am not noticing ;P

Honosuseri nice call on selling my old rig coincidentally a guy i work with asked what i was doing with my old components so he may well buy them =))

I was looking at some aftermarket heatsinks and saw this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-006-CS&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2342 is this a good one?

anyone know if liquid cooling really worth the money?

I am pretty sure this forum should come with a financial health warning/sticker or something hehe

Thanks again =)

Hi sorry for the delay thanks for all your responses been a busy few days :)

I was looking at the ram you suggested

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-133-GL

and noticed for the same price i could buy the 1866mhz version,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-135-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=

i know Orcvader said that 1600mhz is the sweet spot and there is hardly any difference in the performance if you go any higher (which i am sure is right), but for the same price is it the better option even if the difference is only slight? :)

Would be your next upgrade on an upgrading system like mine? (Apart of GPU as they are quite pricey), i was thinking a new case as the one i have atm is quite old and small.

Thanks in advance sorry for all the questions all the time ;)
