Hi guys, a friend of mine has just gave me a old pc to sort out for him ive reinstalled windows etc, but when i try to connect to the internet thru my router it is saying there is limited or no connectivity all the lights are green on router. I have a static ip address will this be affecting it ? any help much appriciated thanks.

It could be. Most routers will only let you out onto the internet if you have an IP address within the DHCP range it gives out. If you give your self a static IP within the routers DHCP range then it in most cases it will work normally as long as you have the correct gateway and subnet mask in. DHCP is the best way to go unless you have a need for a static IP for a server etc.

;)

Where abouts do i set those settings mate, in on the computer or router? i managed to get the connection but its only sending packets and recieving none

Right click network places on your PC's desktop and choose properties
Then right click on local area connection and choose properties
Then scroll down to TCP/IP highlight it and press properties.
The make sure both options you can see are set to automatic.
Then OK and apply your way back out.

After a brief pause you should now get IP info via DHCP from your router on your PC automatically.

Are you on VM?

I had limited connectivity all day and after 3-4 phone calls to suppost and them phoning me on mobile, it couldnt get fixed and said they will send an engineer out.

Just rebooted my pc and it mysteriously connected
