Hi guys, just a few questions about the parts im looking to buy as my first pc! (that ive bought, only 17 :P)

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2)
Mobo - Gigabyte M750SLi-DS4 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Mem - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-18
Gfx - OcUK GeForce 9800 GT 512MB SILENT GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) x 2
All found on, and to be bought from, the overlcockers site ofc.

Bare with me, some of these questions may be obvious but i couldnt find answers browsing about, and im not very knowledgeable with hardware.

1. How do I tell, or even, are any of these parts going to drag others down and drop performance?
2. Will all these parts be compatable together? main concern was things such as DDR2 mobo but DDR3 Gfx, comapatable? :confused:
3. I read in reviews for the Gfx cards that they are relatively big, does anyone use these cards? and able to specify dimensions so I can see if they will into my NZXT "Lexa" case as SLI?
4. Power supply, looking at the companies websites for all the parts i couldnt see how much power was needed, what sorta supply should I be buying? I only have a " X-Power GTX light 480w".
5. Last of all, you will be glad to know,
"4 x 1.8v memory slots" does that mean i need to find RAM that has a voltage of 1.8 at a maximuim? if I get 2v ram will it not work to full potential?

is there a big difference between the intel core 2 duo e7200 wolfdale 2.53 compared to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz? other than the speed which is obvious to novices

Just checking i found a few articles claiming that intel focus too much on raw speed and amd is more reliable. im just really looking for a system that will play the newer games, gears pc crysis etc pretty well nearly max settings therfore would the original stated build, other than power supply, fullfil my needs?
Not able to spend a shed load my bank account is very limited around say £400 to max of £500 i guess.. need money for fable 2 and gears 2 on the 360 as well :P

Now there seems to be a AMD VS INTEL
all i can say is FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
well now ive got that out : P
no matter whether you like amd or intel, is the amd proccessor i was looking at a fairly good one for just running a few games, where is th best place for me to benchmark these?

As long as the memory isn't "value" stuff or Ballistix (these fail massively) you'll be fine.

The 9800GT is a renamed 8800GT with identical performance. You should get a 4850.

If you get an IBM Deathstar do not pass go do not collect 200 pounds.

Thanks very much i will definetly look into the 4850, and find a crosswire mobo instead of sli .. didnt realise it was just a name changer....

i really really wanted a deathstar :(
i just love loosing all of my data, who doesnt :eek:
