Evening all.

Just wondering if any of you'd give an opinion on the PSU in the pic below being able to cope with the rest of the spec, with four hard drives thrown in too?

With people now buying 1200W PSUs 520W seems a tad small - so I'm unsure of what modern components 520W can power. Even better would be a site that offers some general indications of what wattage can power what, if you'll excuse my poor English :D

Also, whilst you're there - if any of you would like to comment on the rest of the spec, I'd be grateful to hear opinions :)

Thanks

A 520 should be fine with any single GPU. What CPU are you using? Although it shouldn't make much difference :-)

People getting 1200W are just daft in most cases, they don't draw enough juice. It's often paranoia or just wanting to be fully future proof.

Even with two GPUs most people only need 700/800W with overhead.

I thought as much - 1200W seems a helluva lot of power to me. Whilst future-proofing would be nice, I doubt I'll ever enter the arena of dual GPUs - quite content playing yesterday's games :)

Thanks very much to both of you for clarifying that it'll be OK - time to hit the 'Buy' button :)

Ive got that power supply doing fine with my super overvolted CPU (at 1.7V!) single card, 2 hard drives, watercooling pumo, 6 fans and a few LED's and CCFL's in there.

Its a great little power supply, I'd say go for it

Sold! To the gentleman with the potato

Bought the above :) Thanks for all your advice guys!

im running a [email protected], 4870 1GB, 4gb ram@1100mhz, 5ish hard drives atm, dvd drive, loads of fans etc, asus sound card xonar d1, and have no issue with power/stability. I am however replacing the 520w corsair i have with a 650w simply because of only having 4sata power connectors with the 520 modular one i have now and needing more.

I emailed corsair and they sent me 2 new sets of SATA leads for my 520W, each having 3 sata connectors on them!

What cpu have you got? For most 1.7V is way too high, you won't get a lot of life out of it.

Yea I know, but its only a £40 E1400, hopefully wont be having it too long anyway! Got it as I was skint and needed a PC to keep me going a few months until I could afford somthing better. Just made sure I've got the max out of it I can for now :p

Hoping to go for a 7200 or somthing soon though

Very true; 550 or 600 should do almost anything a 500 can't... obviously though for some people it's worth getting a 700-800W unit, both for piece of mind or just because they know they'll upgrade parts of it and need some future-proofing.
