Hi All

I am with UK Online 22mb Adsl2+

My router says the line is connected at 19000kbps but I cant get any more than 10mbps on any speed test.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Aaron

Most servers wont run much faster than 10mbps.

Probably either the servers you use is limited, or your line cannot cope with going any faster.

Have you tried rebooting the router? How long have you had the connection for? Did it just get activated? If it did then it may take a few days to pull up to speed as they monitor you line and run diagnostics on it for the first few days.

Also, if your router is wireless, can your access point recieve >11mbps?

Tried downloading that file, dont get over 1.7mb/sec

I have tried copying a large file over wireless to the nas file thats plugged into the router and its copying at 3mb/sec so I dont think wireless is the bottle neck

Any other ideas

Assuming you mean 1.7MB/s that's 13.6mbit so I don't think you're too far off.

With overheads etc. the actual useful throughput will probably be around 16-17mbit.

Thats still pretty far off. 3mb a sec! lol

The overheads I meant were on the line itself, nothing to do with the wireless, you probably wouldn't gain anything (other than slightly lower latency) using a cable instead of wireless.

3-4mbit off isn't that much on a line of that speed, you're probably hitting exchange + server contention at speeds like that!

Try in the early hours of the morning downloading from several different sources and you'll be able to more realistically get an idea of the top speed the line itself can acheive.
