Line in on iPad

just now I have a digital piano plugged in to the line in on my pc, then use headphones connected to the pc so i get the PC sound (mp3's or youtube vids etc) and the piano sound through the headphones

can that be done with an iPad?
I've heard about the headphone jack being used as a mic but what about both at once?

Could you not just google it? Essentially it's expensive to get a decent quality line in.
