I want to be able to do this...how can I?

http://www.radialeng.com/di-xamp.htm

I've found that thing...does exactly what I want but I can't find it in the uk. Are there any other options because I'm not doing very well. It sounds like the perfect thing to use to put vocals/non electro-acoustic/recorded clean guitar through some exciting effects and an amp then the air without doubling up on line level and guitar level effects.

Why would you not want that little box?

As I understand it with the mighty power of a DI box I could put the guitar into the pc; record it; send it back out at my leisure to effect & amp to my tastes rather than having to replay it each time.

It sounds like that is more or less a DI box, and an expensive one at that. A DI will convert your guitar signal to line for recording, and to send the line back to a guitar amp just lower the output volume of the recorder tbh, it shouldn't be too noisy. Lot's of DI available here, can't list the main supplier I know as it is a competitor, but check out Behringer gear for value :)

having read a little about it you can either buy a specific re-amp box...which seem incredibly rare (or expensive) in this country OR you use a passive DI box backwards to get the impedance of the signal sorted while keeping the output level of your soundcard low enough to avoid unwanted clipping.

I'll probably give this a go as DI boxes are incredibly cheap in comparison. And the only box specificaly designed for reamping I can find is £300...which would buy me a new amp with a line in!

The only real problem with the backwards DI box is perhaps the sex of the connector (if its got an XLR in) and the fact its not specificaly designed to do it.

hmmmm interesting...about double the price i was hoping for though. It does sound suspicously like they just have a switch which uses different sockets. I'm sure theres some noise damping electronics in there two which might be uni directional though.
