Is the line better before:

DSL Flavour = ADSL over POTS
Reserved Bandwidth (kbit/s) up/down = 288 / 2272
Uptime = 00:04:24
kBytes Tx/Rx = 5979 / 1048

Properties
Output Power (dBm) up/down = 12.0 / 17.5
Attenuation (dB) up/down = 25.0 / 40.0
Noise Margin (dB) up/down = 31.0 / 19.0
Vendor Id (local/remote) = ALCB / ALCB

Statistics
Loss of signal (local/remote) = 0 / 0
Loss of power (local/remote) = 0 / 0
Loss of framing (local/remote) = 0 / 0
Errored Seconds (local/remote) = 2 / 0
Loss of link (remote) = 0

or after (i plugged it directly into the test socket downstairs):

DSL Flavour = ADSL over POTS
Reserved Bandwidth (kbit/s) up/down = 288 / 2272
Uptime = 00:00:33
kBytes Tx/Rx = 70 / 179

Properties
Output Power (dBm) up/down = 12.0 / 18.5
Attenuation (dB) up/down = 26.0 / 41.0
Noise Margin (dB) up/down = 31.0 / 24.0
Vendor Id (local/remote) = ALCB / ALCB

Statistics
Loss of signal (local/remote) = 1 / 0
Loss of power (local/remote) = 0 / 0
Loss of framing (local/remote) = 0 / 0
Errored Seconds (local/remote) = 5 / 21
Loss of link (remote) = 1

It's better afterwards. You're on a fixed rate service, so the SNR margin is the one to look at and it's gone up.
Your attenuation's changed slightly but not significantly.

must be my dodgy flat 10m telephone cable from the other room into this one. i have a telephone socket in this room but it doesnt work, so i have to run a wire.

It's not that dodgy, it's a very small difference. You need to address why you're on a 2Mbps service instead of a MAX one.

i'm getting 2Meg because i'm capped at 50gig a month if i go for the full 8 (which i'm only about to get 5Meg). with 2meg i get 100gig cap.

I'm with Zen. i cant get cable.

well, i got zen newsletter saying that they've launched the 20Mps service. i signed up and got this:

Priority migration for "up to 20Mbps" Broadband
Thank you for completing your priority migration request. Migrations currently have a two month lead time meaning the earliest your migration can be processed is January 2010, providing your exchange is 21CN enabled.

According to samknows.com - 21CN WBC status: RFS date set : 30/09/2009
