Hello there

Please can U suggest wether I should stay with adsl 24 & test my line with their maxdsl first before leaving for another go at 02. Here are my last 12hr line stats.

Well looking at your stats your line is just over a mile long and you should get 16Mb, probably slighter better on ADSL2+.

Your signal to noise is very good but the attenuation isn't so, are you connected to the master/test socket or you running your ADSL via an extension socket/lead?

Get yourself over to BE/O2 sharpish anyway :D

You have no control over the attenuaton - that's dictated by line length, quality, etc. The only thing your internal house wiring can affect is the SNR and in this case it's pretty high on fixed-rate 2mbit. You'd almost definitely hit the full 8mbit on ADSL, but you'd also almost certainly get a fair whack more with an ADSL2+ provider so go for Be/O2.

You have no control over the attenuaton - that's dictated by line length, quality, etc.

I'd have thought bad extensions leads/sockets would add more attenuation/resistance to the line that would affect both the SNR and attenuation. Seen it with my own eyes plenty of times after working for a large ISP.

Not saying you're wrong as I guess you have more experience, but I've never seen it myself. 30db attenuation isn't too bad anyway, should still be good for some decent speeds, just suggests a line not too close to the exchange.

just to add I was on o2 last month but they were unwilling to get an sfi engineer to check my faults so went back ot adsl24, anyway I'm in the master socket & my snr has stayed this high since the engineer swapped me to another pot on the aswell as fixing a crossover. my line appears stable now but I just fear if it happens again with the unstable lag & crc, fec errors appear again I will be stuck. To add some oddness to this though my line was

2272 288
line attenuation 23

snr 20

so some improvement on the snr but with the line swap a higher attenuation

Yeah he must've put you on a different pair in the cab which has a longer route/more interference on its path back to the exchange. Not a lot you can do about that really.

It sounds very much like the copper pair has been changed (to fix the crossed line issue), resulting in one that routes with a longer line length - possible reason for the attenuation increase anyway.

As Phemo states, your stats are good anyway 30dB isn't bad. If it makes you feel better I have a 45dB attenuation, line length approximately 3.3km and max sync rate Ive had was 9.2Mb Down, 1.2Mb Up which im happy with - this is with BE too (BE Value due to line length).

There's a guesstimator in the sticky - I'm not The Oracle :p

Changes in attenuation as a result of fiddling with internal wiring are mostly a result of bitswapping (unless you have an extremely short loop length or a few kilometres of extension wiring). Modem decides to use more low-frequency bins, average attenuation drops.

current line stats after 24hrs :(

These are my stats on a 2mb fixed line, do U think this will get worse on adsl2+

Worse? No, they're good stats. 28dB attenuation with 29.4dB SNR. You'd definitely get a pretty substantial increase with ADSL2+.

Every line is different, but my line with 27dB attenuation syncs at around 18000kbps.

have U seen the ammount of crc errors? that what was worrying & the was a drop

new stats after 3 days, just see if its recomended with the crc errors to go back to adsl2+ 02/be (crc error state)
