Lineups in 2012/2013

fellow spurs fans dropping parker completely or taking his injury and subsequent missing start of the season into account?

i'd like to see us line up like this. i'd like a new gk, lb, cb, striker and rw but as we haven't signed any yet, i'll go with this.

-----friedel-----
Walker - Kaboul - Vertonghen - BAE
------parker--sandro---------
---------sigurdsson-----------
lennon------------------------bale
----------adebayor-------------

subs: vdv, defoe, rose, dawson, caulker, cudicini,

the 4 front players could work well.. could also drop lennon and have a more centrally driven attack with VDV behind the striker and bale allowed to roam. he obviously wants to bring more of this into his game though i admit it is not his most effective play, it could be worth a shot.

parker and sandro protecting the back 4, sandro expected to cover right across the line as he has the stamina to do so.

from what i've seen of sigurdsson, his distribution looks good. if we can keep it simple, get the defence to pass it to him, he spreads it wide, we attack with pace from the wings, we could be very effective as we'd still have cover on the counter.

From a United perspective assuming we dont sign anyone else I'd really like us to ditch 4-4-2 and lineup so;

--------------De Gea--------------
Rafael---Smalling---Vidic---Evra
--------------Carrick--------------
------Cleverley------Kagawa------
Valencia------Rooney------Nani

Subs: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Jones, Scholes, Young, Welbeck, Hernandez

Leaving the likes of Evans, Powell, Giggs & Anderson also in the squad

Okay now we have a problem :D

Option 1: We rotate Rooney and RVP - unlikely
Option 2: We play 4-4-2 and Fergie does what he did with Anderson and converts Kagawa into a deeper midfielder (or worse, a winger) - I hope not
Option 3: we play 4-3-3, drop two out of Nani, Young and Valencia and stick one of Rooney and RVP out wide - not ideal

Honestly I have no idea how you use the players we have now, will be interesting to see.

---------------------------De Gea
Rafael-----Ferdinand/Smalling----Vidic----Evra
-----------------------Carrick/Anderson
------------Nani/Valencia------------Young/Kagawa
-----------------------Rooney/Cleverley
------------------------RVP----Hernandez/Welbeck

If it were me I'd pair Rooney and RvP up front, Fergie has a had a lot of success with 4-4-2 down the years.

........................................De Gea
Rafael/Jones/Smalling.....Ferdinand....Vidic....Evra
Valencia/Nani...............Carrick....Kagawa...Young/Nani
..................................Rooney....RvP

So basically the three wingers would rotate, possibly Kagawa would be replaced by e.g. Cleverley/Scholes at times too.

I think Fergie will generally keep to a 4-4-2, and Rooney will have more of a free role in his usual position up front (he has a fairly free role anyway).

Kagawa is perfectly capable of playing CM, he's quick, good at tracking back and with Carrick I think we'd be quite fine against most teams.

Against Hannover we had Cleverley and Kagawa in CM and that seemed to work okay, unfortunately Cleverley doesn't do as much defensive work as Carrick will, but Kagawa's ability to pick up the ball and run with it is extremely impressive. Several times he happily ran half the length of the pitch to get the ball forward. None of our midfielders last season could do that. He did the same against Barcelona too.

I think it would be a bit too much against the likes of Man City though, unless we try and outscore them.

Interesting times ahead.

I reckon against most sides we'll go 4-4-2 so something like;

------------De Gea------------
Rafael---Vidic---Ferdinand---Evra
Valencia--Carrick--Scholes--Kagawa
------------Rooney
-------------RVP

And hopefully against tougher opposition Fergie will go back to his tried and tested 4-5-1/4-3-3 as he did 2 seasons back so something like;

------------De Gea------------
Jones---Vidic---Ferdinand---Evra
------------Scholes------------
-----Carrick---------Kagawa-----
Valencia-----RVP-----Rooney

You don't think Nani will get much of a role, Tom?

To elaborate if I were picking the team he'd be in ahead of Valencia no question but I think it's safe to say the man who does pick the team feels otherwise

Krul

Debuchy/Colo/Taylor/Santon

Ben Arfa/Tiote/Cabaye/Guti/Marveaux

Cisse

Assuming we clinch Debuchy on 31st August! Still think we need a LB and more CB cover. Marveaux has impressed me pre-season and I think we will play 4-5-1. But probably not as sulky Ba will cry! But he's been poor pre-season for me and doesn't deserve a pick

-------------------Reina-------------------
Johnson---Skrtel-------Agger---Enrique
----Sahin----------Lucas--------Allen----
----Gerrard------Suarez------Borini----

Subs:
Doni
Coates
Robinson
Henderson
Shelvey
Sterling/Suso/Tello(?)
Carroll

GNev!

Will RVP go through in time for the game?

And lol at sticking Giggs on left wing, what on earth.

It sounds like it. Whether he'll start/feature or not remains to be seen.

I doubt the formation is entirely serious, it looks as if he's got Valencia/Evra as wing backs with Giggs/Kagawa/Rooney all in attacking midfield (not as wingers). I can't see that happening! :p

Think I'd probably go for a Nani / Young rather than an even older Giggs :p Hoping we don't play Valencia at RB to be honest, he's wasted there attacking-wise and he doesn't have the discipline to play there at all.

Can't have a thread full of prem teams!

With current injuries, and assuming Fletch and Jarvis leave, I imagine Wolves will start something like this against Leeds:

Ikeme

Zubar / Johnson / Stearman / Ward

Peszko / Henry / Doumbia / Forde

Ebanks-Blake / Doyle

Subs: De Vries, Foley/Davis, Batth, Elokobi, Hunt/Jonsson, Sigurdarson, Nouble

............De Gea
Rafael...Vidic...Rio...Evra
............Carrick
Nani......Kagawa...Valencia
...Van Persie...Rooney

Subs:

Lindegaard
Young
Anderson
Cleverley
Smalling
Welbeck
Hernandez

Berbatov has to go.
