Lineups in 2012/2013

I'd go for 4-2-3-1 for UTD now that RVP is here.

----------De Gea---------
--Raf - Vidic - Rio - Evra--
-------Carrick - Clev------
Valancia - Rooney - Kagawa
------------RVP-----------

I seriously hope Kagawa isnt wasted out wide

Still hoping for more of a 4/3/3 with

----------Carrick /Clev------

-------Kagawa-------Rooney-----

Valencia ------- RvP--------Young /Nani

Think that would be a much stronger formation imo and works better to the players strengths

1st Team:

..............Sir Chesney
Sagna...Koscielny...Vermaelen...Gibbs
....Carzola...Arteta...Wilshere
....AOC....Giroud....Podolski

2nd XI:

....................Mannone
Jenkinson..Djourou...Mertesacker...Santos
.......Ramsey.....Song.......Rosicky
.......Walcott....Gervinho....Arshavin

3rd XI:

................Flappyhandski
Yannaris...Eastmond...Squillaci...Miquel
......Coquelin...Frimpong.....Diaby
.....Bendtner...Chamakh.....Park

If Song leaves them Lansbury can slot into the 3rd team.
Not too sure about whether Giroud is worthy of a starting berth yet either so he could drop down.

For the first game of the season four of my first choice XI are injured (Kos, Sag, Wil, AOC) but that's nothing new as we haven't been able to field my first choice XI in I can't remember how long, 5 years maybe but probably longer.

looking forward to seeing huddlestone back, even if he does have the turning circle of the QE2, he has a sweet shot and pass on him though i'd prefer parker against the top 6 teams. i also can't wait for him to score so he can cut his hair.

i would like vert and kaboul to strike up a formidable partnership. i like kaboul, he showed flashes of commandery last season and i hope he progresses.

i would also like to see sigurdsson positioned centrally as opposed to VDV if he has one of his off games.

He has to fit in somewhere. He has played wide for club and country before joining utd. He won't be a winger, he will likely have a free roam role.

I'd still take a 4-4-2 over that, Rooney and RvP up front, any 2 from the 3 wingers, Carrick and Kagawa in the middle. Yes maybe some formation variant with Carrick and Kagawa not directly alongside each other.

Slightly unrelated but the way precise formation labels are going these days sooner or later we will be talking about a "2-2-1-1-1-2-1" formation with a new line for every blade of grass further up the pitch a player is.

Yet you want to 'waste' Rooney in midfield

Im not :)

That was just ease of typing (would be more of a dog-leg in reality) - which is a huge difference to a player Utd NEED centrally playing out wide

Thats as maybe, but imo he would be much more effective for Utd (as he was for BD) centrally as an AM /in the hole

with RvP/Rooney and Kagawa all relatively central - and none of them needing encouragement to get in the box and shoot, defences should be torn to shreds - especially if you add Valencia and Young /Nani out wide

Exactly :)

Now the tranfer window has slammed shut for another summer, I took a look at our squad. Expected "25-man" squad (with only 23 players) for Arsenal as follows:

Sir Chesney
Mannone
Fabianski

Gibbs
Santos
Sagna
Vermaelen
Koscielny
Mertesacker
Djourou
Eastmond
Squillaci

Carzorla
Arteta
Diaby
Ramsey
Rosicky

Podolski
Giroud
Arshavin
Walcott
Gervinho
Chamakh

Homegrown players in yellow.

From the youth players the ones who might get some games include:

Wilshere
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Jenkinson
Coquelin
Frimpong
Miquel
Yannaris

As for Liverpool I was a little surprised to see them let Carroll out on loan bearing in mind they'd already released Bellamy, Suarez has only ever scored 16 EPL goals, and Borini has fewer than that in his entire career across all leagues.

I'll post the new look Stoke side for the coming season which after the weekends showing, 16 shots on goal AWAY from home, it looks pretty good!

-------------------- Begovic ---------------------

---- Cameron ---- Shawcross ---- Huth ----

Whitehead --- Adam --- N'Zonzi --- Wilson

------------Kightly --------- Walters ------------

--------------------- Crouch ---------------------

Charlie Adam will have a free role and everything on the ground will go through him, we have still got the effective long ball which everyone knows about ;) and as every Stoke fan knows Pulis likes having "cage" midfielders which having Whitehead (or Glen Whelan), N'Zonzi and Wilson it gives him 3.

With Kightly up with Walters and Crouch he'll give us the mobility we've been crying out for and pick up second balls which we've desperately missed!

I'm not a massive Pulis fan but I'm impressed with how he's changed tactics and hopefully is playing more effective and attacking football. Hopefully this pushes us into the top 10 :D

After yesterdays performance (abismal) I would like to see Newcastle in a New formation please.

-----------------Krul------------------

---Santon-----Taylor-----Colo-------Guti---

----------------Tiote----Anita--------------

-------------------Cabaye------------------

-------HBA----------Ba------------Cisse----

However Anita looked far better at RB. We looked mishaped, and Ben Arfa needed to be covered defensively as he much preferred to be up top. We essentially played with 3 strikers yesterday. But we lacked a lot of discipline. I can't stand Simpson anymore, he's terrible in the air, cannot run with the ball, and is becoming a liability. Taylor and Colo were solid again. But we missed Tiote massively.

Has Cisse been anywhere near as good as last year? Or has he been played left and Ba moved back central?

I think 1 or 2 injuries to key players and they might struggle, admittedly that's just looking in from the outside! Is that the general consensus or am I jumping the gun?

A few matches in now and I'm really not sure what we're trying to do, every time we've played we've got someone playing out of their preferred position. Welbeck on the left is stupid, Kagawa on the left is a waste, RvP on the left is a waste. It all seems a little aimless at the moment.

We have resorted to playing Ba and Cisse up top together. When Cisse was on his goal scoring spree he played up top by himself, with Ba on the left and Ben Arfa on the right. They are now too close together and from my personal opinion, getting in each others way. Ba moaned near the end of last season that he wanted a more central role. We tried to accommodate that, and pushed Cisse on the left, and it didn't work.

Cisse looks tired personally, as goes with other players too IMO, guitierez isn't putting a shift in like he used to. Cabaye seems to have slowed down too

Considering the new signings and I will assume they can slot in straight away....

-------Aguero-------
Nasri---Tevez---Silva
----Garcia--Yaya----
Clichy-Lesc-Komp-Maicon
----------Hart----------

Bench; Pantilimon, Kolarov, Richards, Rodwell, Balotelli, Dzeko and Sinclair.

That means Zaba and Barry miss out but everyone gets rotated around and there are always injuries.

In reality Maicon and Garcia will be brought into the team slowly but I think ultimately that will be our strongest team.

They do seem like very similar players and unfortunately like last season when one is scoring the other isn't. On their own they are two cracking centre forwards, and from my point of view, Ba would have been fantastic for Stoke - but everyone knows how that ended!

Last season Cabaye bossed against us when you beat us down the Brit. I think that you might suffer in a similar way to us last season due to the Europa league.

I think you're right, originally I wanted us to play on our reserves in the Europa league, so our first 11 were fresh for PL action. However it still has an affect anyway. We tend to take the full team across anyway. So you've got travelling time, missing out on training sessions etc. You can already tell a lot of fitness is lacking from many players, last season we did so well because we ran around pressing every player, which we don't seem to be doing so well at now.

We aren't going to win the competition, so a part of me wants to get knocked out kindly, but then I would also like to see us go quite far, to keep the players happy, get a bit of revenue in etc. We are aiming for europe again, so we are going to have to get used to it.

That was one of our problems last year, Jon Walters in 2010-11 season was immense, chased everything, scored goals and generally was a beast of a player and showed hard work can pay off. Last season he played almost 60 games and you could tell by December he needed a break. This season he seems to be back to how he was at the start of last year and the season before. Our team were burnt out and then struggled mainly because pre-season was interrupted by qualification and the extra travel. This coupled with impressive runs in the League cup (or whatever it is called now) and the FA cup really hit us.

I think to compete in these competitions you need effectively two teams and need to be able to drop key players. I've had down from the start that Newcastle won't do aswell, purely down to the Europa League.

The Europa League needs to be 10 games from start - finish, not 20 odd like it is - I think it'd make it more competitive personally.
