What you're after is a VPN (Virtual Private Network). There are a few programs that can do it, have a google.

thanks zefan, found a lot of stuff but all seemed quite confussing regarding software but i did find logmein.com does anyone know if this is secure iworks brill
you can even run software on second machine.

VPN is the ideal solution. If using XP then you should have Remote Desktop Connection already on there - thats basically what logmein is - except that logmein provides more network options like file transfer. Small files could be remote desktop in and email / ftp'd between them.

another for logmein

you have to pay for the use of the better package for file transfer and such, but its excellent.

3 levels of logon also, which can come in handy, logon to the website.

logon onto the machine and then the accont logon password on the machine.

All in all never had any problems with it.

Is the kind of software that can be used to create a 'fake LAN' sort of thing for 2 computers over the internet, to trick them into thinking its a local network..?
