I have two sites linked by a wireless link, the main one has an analogue PBX.
I need a phone line(s) at the other site.

Without faffing about with VoIP adaptors and SIP accounts,
is there a device that I can plug a normal phone into at one end (remote), and then plug into a normal telephone jack at the other (main site) ?

i.e. so the remote site is effectively on the same phone system as the main site.

It's likely that I'll just have a normal phone line installed, but wondered if I had an alternative.

What model PBX do you have on the site?

We use a Centrex system provided by NTL (as it gives us free calls between sites) so it's just a dumb console, and everything else is handled by NTL.

Were you thinking of an PBX with an IP interface then ?
...we did think of upgrading to something like that, but I think it's not worth the outlay now. (now down to three sites, soon to be just two)

Not really. It's just some PBX manufacturers supply plug & play adaptors that would connect to an extension on your pbx and connect to the LAN. On the remote site, connect a similar unit to the LAN and plug the phone in.

Basically it extends the telephone across the LAN to the remote site.

Unfortuantely this would not be supported (AFAIK) on the Centrex network you have.

However, installing a couple of PBX's with say 4 port IP trunk cards at each end to network the units across IP would be the best solution but the price depends on the number of extns at each site. Probably not as expensive as you think it would be for the 0-16 extn market though.
