Do you use it? Do you think it's any good?

I've recently signed up and the most number of connections I have are from recruitment agencies, as I made the (possible) mistake of linking it to my Monster profile. Wondering how to manage not annoying the people that might be trying to find me a job in the future, versus preventing my manager from searching my profile and seeing that I'm connected to a bunch of people that want me to leave my current position.

Also do you think it's cheesy and unprofessional to have a profile pic where I'm not looking at the camera :p?

I use it, although at the moment i mainly just have graduates from my uni and lecturers on. Need to add more industry professionals and join more groups.

I use it. Its awesome. I got my current job via Linked In because someone recommended me and the recruiter and now manager read my profile and recommendations.
I dont have a profile pic but have been considering it, providing its a professional one and not you on the beach or in a bar; like some that I have seen.

More and more recruiters use it these days to headhunt people so I would say its a good thing to have.

Pictures are also good - need to update mine actually. Get as many contacts as poss from past colleagues and current ones, whenever someone has praised your work - get a recommendation - they work similar to references :)

At the moment randoms (not rec cons) keep adding me saying that they are my friend  weirdos.

I find a good picture is one of you on a golf course, pulling a smug face.

Must be careful not to request a recommendation from my current colleagues...might stir suspicions...

Now who have I worked with before...

Just a word of warning LinkedIn are pushing a service that 'tags' your profile if you are looking for job.

There's already been one guy fired for using it believe it or not :eek:

Other than that I find it useful ;)

How does it know unless you've told it you're looking, via the monster link? Or are you just saying beware that if you tell it, everyone else could know too?

Linkedin is ok. I use it striclty for business networking and getting contracts. Its worth spending the time and creating a quality profile in the same way as you would with a CV.
