Saw this today. Got sent an email from a supplier and he had his LinkedIn profile in his email signature. What's that all about? Is this a thing? I thought LinkedIn was where you went to hint at companies that you are looking for work, Shirley his employer would notice this?

Might do it myself, I've come to learn that other companies are offering people in my position £10k a year more than I'm on

His own is a bit odd I suppose. Any external mails I send have the corporate facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc. links

Outlook can tag linkedIN and facebook profiles to incoming email if you switch it on. Mine pulls up their pic from both on the email header.

Northing like getting a serious work email with a guy wearing an elf's outfit :)

You get some very tasty female ones as well :)

LinkedIn is far from just a place where you find a job.

It's the Facebook of the business world. I used to use it for networking a lot.

using linked in doesn't necessarily mean you're looking for work, his employer noticing shouldn't matter

It s used as much more of a social network by many people, but there are also those that use it just as a way of finding a new job.

I would say anyone who puts it in a signature most likely falls into the first category, and displays some activity of endorsing, connecting and commenting.

If you want a new job, I would say adding it to your signature is not something worth considering, because those that are receiving emails from you most likely know you and those that don't will more likely get visibility of your profile, through some good proactive work directly on Linkedin.

If you do decide put a link on your signature, at least put in a few weeks of activity beforehand to make it look like less like obvious...

Before today, I would've disagreed with you.

I have secured at least 4 jobs via LinkedIn over the years and have formed many valuable contacts with the recruitment sector. I don't use it to socialise. It just helps to promote my profile and broaden my scope.

Anyway, they've recently updated their app. If you ask me, it looks like a Facebook product now.

Not impressed

getting more connections in itself will get you more contacts from recruiters... I've found it is quite common for recruiters who contact/connect with me to already be connected to another of my connections

if you're connecting with people in the same industry as you then they'll probably have recruiters covering that industry connected with them too who will then connect with you

I've never used linked in but I keep getting the automated emails from when friends join up. And there's typically several of them before it gives up.

Is there any way I can get linkedin to never darken my inbox again from these emails?

Indeed. In fact a large telco I used to work for used to run sessions on having a decent LinkedIn profile and how to make use of it for networking and increasing knowledge by joining relevant groups. It pays to know what other people are up to in your area of business.

Well yes, but then rather than hoping they might respond to your sig, your better off being proactive and connecting with them directly on LinkedIn.

I run a business and get crappy emails from suppliers trying to connect to me on it, just ignore it.

This. When I was an account manager, linkedin was how I found the people I needed to contact.

I should've done this, however. I think I under-used it really. I only used it to stalk people so I knew who to speak to when I called the switchboard :p

Once got through to the CTO of a purple t-shirt people. I think he was rather surprised :D

Yeah my previous employer took an active interest in branding your Linked In and making sure it was up to date. I'm a contractor effectively and the first thing a prospective customer is going to do is Google the names of the people coming to work on their project, so they are likely to hit the Linked In page quite quickly.

Plus, if you are genuinely looking for a job on it, you hide all your connections and updates from public view anyway ;)

I get loads of people just seeking to connect and I reject them all for the simple reason I have this on my profile...

"Happy to connect with people I don't know, but please provide a reason why you wish to connect beforehand or with the connection request. Recruiters who simply request without this will be rejected."

If they can't be bothered to read then seems little point adding them.

LinkedIn is the only social network where I mash accept on every request. It's not supposed to be a friends list that you curate.
