Have been using a venerable Linksys BEFSR41 router to handle the home network for the past few years: primarily two desktops on Cat5e but recently with various laptops seeing some use I'd like to add a wireless element.
I'm currently looking at replacing the BEFSR41 with either the Linksys WRT54GL Open Source router or the Linksys WRT54GC. I'd prefer to stick with Linksys if possible, as I've been very happy with the performance and uptime of the BEFSR41 and currently have it mounted vertically out-of-sight using a proprietory Linksys wall mounting bracket, so the WRT54GL in particular will definitely slot directly on to that. Wireless N isn't a priority as only one of the laptops is capable and they're primarily used for general internet access. Any heavy duty transfers would be done over the wired connections or via USB HDDs.
The WRT54GL looks appealing, being able to flash it with different firmware -- Tomato being recommended I see in a few places. Any Vista 64 compatibility issues in store? Are there any other routers I should definitely be considering over the WRT54GL given these fairly basic requirements? Not really looking to spend more than £40.
Thanks.
