Hi,

I just recevied my new Linksys WRT54GL wireless router today. The CD that came with it is blank! So before I connect it up I need to install the software that was supposed to come on the CD. I cant find this on the net anywhere though, and even the Linksys website doesnt seem to have it. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

you dont need any software for a router.....
Correct. The CD just contains a digital version of the printed setup instructions that came with it. If you desperately need the CD I could send you one. :p ;)

Out of curiosity, are you going to flash on a 3rd party firmware? What made you choose the Linux version?

Linux version?? Err, I dont think it is, thats just the product number from here on this site.

The cd does work, but I had to shut down Exact Audio Copy otherwise it wouldnt detect it, but know the actual setup program wont work, it simply says its has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any way around this? Or if not, you say I dont need to install any software and can just connect the router without any problems, even though it says all the manual etc to install software first?

the gl runs on linux. you can flash some very power 3rd party fireware, one of which is called dd-wrt. im using that on my wrt54g - its very good:)

Damnit, didnt realise it was for linux. Ive connected it up and my wireless card has connected to it fine and Ive changed a few settings. Is there any reason that it shouldnt work correctly? Im running WinXP. All seems ok so far, fingers x'd!

no, its not for linux lol. it runs on linux. thats a good thing! there's no reason why it should work fine:)

It's not FOR Linux, the router itself is RUNNING Linux. You can connect to it with any operating system.

EDIT: Beaten like the red-headed stepchild I am!

Lol, thanks guys. Next question ;)

I have a wireless card in my PC. This is connected to my neighbours router as we share the net. I have bought this router to share my music with a Squeezebox downstairs, and my PC is connected to the router with the network cable. Is it still possible for a wireless device to access my music through the router even though im connected to it by LAN?

Though I've not used the device you're talking about I imagine that as long as it's on the network it'll be visible, à la iTunes Library sharing.

EDIT: Beaten again. I should really give up. :p

Fantastic, just need the Squeezebox to arrive now. I'll hold you both to what you've said and that it should work flawlessly. Thanks for your help.
