Ive just bought a Linksys E1000 Wireless N Router that I want to flash with DD-WRT firmware.

Ive got ADSL Sky Broadband through the phone line, so I couldnt use the existing Netgear Modem/Router combo as DD-WRT is not compatible.

However, now that I have the E1000, could the Netgear router still act as the modem and connect the Netgear router with a single ethernet cable to the E1000 and then connect all my devices to the E1000 instead? (The 4 ports would connect to PC, PS3, Xbox and Laptop)

Or do I need to buy a standalone ADSL modem without the router facility?

Yes. Google "Netgear model_here modem only mode".

To be honest you shouldn't have bothered getting that linksys E1000 router as I have one and it failed within 3 months (and put linksys into my to be avoided list alongside belkin).

Successfully got the DD-WRT firmware onto the linksys E1000 router. Was really easy. Decided to get a Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL modem to connect to it. Will pick that up in the new year and then start monitoring my monthly download amount as Im intrigued as to how much it is.
