Linksys Router Problem

I keep losing my connection to the internet and can't figure out why. Everything was fine till I set up a static IP address but since then I've reset the router to factory defaults and reinstalled my network card.

The actual internet connection is not the problem as it works fine if I just plug the modem into the pc via an ethernet cable.

The network card can connect to the access point just fine and is stable but It just can't see the internet.

Using a WRT54GS v6.0 router with the latest firmware amd a WMP54GS V1.1 network card so everything should be compatible. I've ran this setup with no problems for the last couple of months.

I'm at my wits end. Any ideas.

Yeah, the computer gets 192.168.1.100 but I don't know if the router is getting an IP as even though the access point can see the router I can't get into the setup screen.

It's set to DHCP though so it should work automatically.

I've since found that if it reboot the router it works for a bit then packs in. I think an RMA might be in order.

EDIT: It's definitely an issue with the router because I even need to reboot it when I plug it straight into the ethernet port just to enter the setup screens after which it works for about 30 seconds then stops. If I switch the power on and off again I get another 30 seconds.

It's the same whether it's wireless or plugged in with a cable.

192.168.1.100 is the router address

Is 192.168.1.1 not the router address? I thought that the router starts allocating IP addresses to the computers on the network from 192.168.1.100 unless you manually set it differently but I know very little about networking at the moment.

Anyway I'm now running DD-WRT on it. It's very stable at the and the GUI is quicker than the Linksys version. Also, for anyone who fancies giving it a go you can now revert back to the Linksys firmware easily enough.

Who'd have though it, Linux Firmware on a WRT54GS v6.0.
