I bought a Linksys WRT54G router in September and all has been fine until last week. Now I cannot connect to the internet through the router or even ping the router, even though I have not changed anything.

I can connect to the net straight through my cable modem (which is what im using now) but when I plug the router in, I get nothing.

This computer was hard wired to the router and I used the wireless for a Laptop.

I have alse tried running the setup again from the CD but when the setup tries to detect the settings it comes up with Unable to connect to router.

Time to RMA or does anyone have any ideas?

Some elementary fault-finding is always a good start.
Have you hard reset the router (holding down the reset switch while you turn it on)?
What lights are lit on the router? If you cable a PC to the router does the appropriate port light on the router come on?
What IP and gateway addresses do you get if you issue "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt on a cabled PC?

Give us the answers to these initial questions and we'll have a better idea of what's (not) going on.

Turn router off, press reset button, turn router on and keep reset button held in for no less than 30 seconds.

If that doesn't work, then try this Revival Guide.

Sorry for the delay, only just been able to look again.

I've noticed the send/receive lights do not flash on the modem when the router is plugged in.

Sorry I am a complete novice when it comes to network thingymajiggy's :p

Tried manually setting the network card to an IP address/subnet mask that's in the same subnet as the router's (192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 or whatever, can't remember the WRT54G's default IP, the manual should say)?

A 169.* IP means it didn't even get an answer from a DHCP request, so there's something a bit screwed - try Basmic's suggestions.

Check its on DHCP, check that the PC MAC addresses are cloned and if all else fails there is a manufacturer's reset?
