Hi guys,

My g/f just bought a Linksys WAG200 to replace her Netgear DG834 that eventually gave up the will to live....anyway, from installation it worked great, however when there is no internet traffic for a while, ie all machines connected to the router are turned off, the internet LED flashes red and no internet connection can be established even though DSL is green, she can login to the router and change settings etc etc, so its not locking up as far as I can tell.
If she then does a 'hard' reboot everything is back up and running until the same thing happens again when she goes to bed or leaves the PCs off for a while.
She's been in contact with Linksys and shes now running a 'beta' version of the firmware but the same problem happens, unfortunately she is with Tiscali and they are about as much use as a chocolate frying pan when it comes to helping you out with non-standard issue hardware.

The only thing I can think of doing is to change the MTU from Auto to a set value of 1472 and see if that works, anyone have any other ideas, maybe I'm missing something simple

this is probably a long shot, but in the settings, specifically the PPPoa section where your username / password is, do you have the 'keep alive' radio button 'ticked' ?

the alternative is connect on demand with a separate max idle time box.

I do not have the same model as you do, but im just thinking from your description, maybe you have it on 'max idle time' then maybe 30 minutes, so its dropping the connection ????

hope this helps anyway m8.

Sounds like it's thinking the connection's idle and shutting it off, then failing to bring it back up for whatever reason.

i think this actually means your username and password is wrong!!!

No mate, the username and password are correct, otherwise no internet connection would be able to be made at all, the problem is the internet dropping when the is no traffic, DSL is fine, a power cycle or reboot sorts the problem, albeit until there is no traffic again

Anyway, Linksys have been in contact and have suggested they send her a new router from what my g/f has told me, hopefully a router will sort the problem.
