Yesterday I noticed my router wasn't syncing to the ADSL line.. flashing light rather than solid. Nothing changed throughout the day so assumed Orange (ISP.. god help me) was down, or exchange problems... but other local folk I know on the same exchange had no issues.

So, I got my Livebox out (never used, had it for 3 yrs!) and it worked straight away. Tried the Linksys again... won't sync. Checked all my settings, they're all as they've been for years, typical ADSL settings such as PPPoA, 0, 38 etc etc.

Flashed the latest firmware on it from Linksys's site... still won't sync. Livebox is fine as soon as you stick it in place.

Is it dead? Any possible fix and is it a common problem? I'd say the Linksys router is about 3 and a bit years old now.

Cheers :)

Now this is odd, the same thing happened to me.

Linksys router WAG354G, was still working but at really slow speed, thought Orange were messing about so didn't think any more about it. Continued the next day so plugged in the Siemens thing they sent me and straight on at full speed (3.5mb).

This happened recently then? I can't understand why it won't sync... everything is set perfectly. Gonna lend it a friend and see if he has any luck, if not I'll assume it's somehow dead :(

Had a friends do exactly the same.

Although, might have had something to do with the mains box outiside his house arcing to the phoneline.

Yeah all started on Fri/Sat then hooked up the other router sunday, and has been fine since then, haven't tried the Linksys any.

Weird stuff indeed. I'll lend it a mate and if no good....is it ready for the bin? Or would there be some kind of possible fix?

Cheers :)

Also, forgot to ask, are Livebox's really worth swapping? I never used to like using them (set a few up years ago) but with the latest firmware/update applied to mine it seems easy enough to manage and enough comprehensive features for me.. so should I save my cash and use it till it pops? Which also seems common, I don't know many folks who actually recommend using these things you see!
