Has anyone got one of these? How are they finding it?

I did have a version 1.2 one but linksys replaced it under warranty. Now have a version 2 one which is suppose to be a lot better but not convinced. The replacement is in a sealed box so was thinking of selling rather and getting a different one rather than opening it.
Has anyone had any probs with a version 2 one?

I have a v2 and it's been fine, although I've not yet used it on wireless, just cable.

I have got version 1.2, its shocking, I sent away for an RMA but they said they would not upgrade it to v2? What can I do?

Thats strange, as from what I've read here and there most people are getting at least a V2 back if they RMA a 1.2. If it's not doing what you wanted, dropping connections or what-ever - ask for your money back and buy a V2, or better still a 354G somewhere else.

I have the V2 bought it in a sale as a pack not so long ago and I get excellent signal strength through 2 walls and a floor plus an average connection of 36Mbps

[edit] and I have not had a wireless or ADSL connection drop yet since switching the thing on [/edit]

how long did the rma take?

Not long. It has to go to holland. You fill in a form on their site and then wait couple of days. Then got email from ups i think with a label to print off and attach. Call ups, they come and pick it up. Got replacement about a week later.

what did they say? or did you ask for a v2?

Was speaking to one guy who admitted to me there were faults with v1 and v1.2. He said they were working on a new firmware which should fix the problems but hadnt been released yet. He said he would email it to me anyway but never did. He also said that if it didnt work then rma it and i could have a v2 or a 354g if no v2 in stock. I then rang back after no firmware arrived and spoke to someone else who said id been misiformed and it would be replaced by a v1.2. I played hell and they agreed to give me a v2.

I don't know what version mine is but I've had it over 18 months now and its running firmware 101.5. The only probs I've had are sporadic drop outs with wifi, everythings fine then for a couple of days I suffer lost connections and stuff then all is well again. so I guess it could be outside interference from something? It has crashed a couple of times well maybe four, but not so often I worry, mostly it copes with our 1 meter thick stone walls (wifi) and for lan gaming, and sharing the adsl connection it's great.
I wish I could stick on a better aerial so I could use my laptop in the garden, but when I replace it I'll make sure I do my homework.
but there's no prob that at the moment will make me shell out untill it dies, or I need adsl2!

We used to roll out the WAG54G to home users and they seem to be pretty stable. Out of about 15 i only had to send 1 back for replacement. Get the odd call about wireless not giving IP address's but a simple reboot usually sorts it.

The WAG54GS on the other hand is causing no end of problems with our VPN software. It simply doesn't let it through, even with the firewall off and ports forwarded. It is a nightmare.

I've got one I bought from someone on these forums who, like you, got it as an RMA but by then had bought something else.

I've been using it fro 9 months now with no problems at all. Never had to reboot or anything. Have one wired and one wireless connection.

If you don't want it I might buy it from you as my Bro is looking for something similar :)

Don't suppose the VPN software is a version of or based on SafeNet SoftRemote - reminds of the Linksys BEFDSR41W I had a couple of years back and it was total junk. Despite numerous failed efforts from Linksys UK tech support and a number of firmware revisions the SoftRemote based VPN software we were using at the time could simply not get through - even when you tired getting it run run in NAT-T mode.

Have recently acquired a WAG54GX2 (after swearing never to buy Linksys again) and so far it has been a complete disaster too with regular wireless dropouts (when using a Linksys WPC54GX PC card too) and eventually the whole router hanging until switched off and presumably left to cool down. Its not even as if I am hammering with loads of P2P traffic either. Shame because it has some nice features (QoS looks promising) and when the wireless works the range and speed are pretty impressive.

Looks like it is the same type of issue we have. It is Netscreen remote VPN which is i think based on the SafeNet SoftRemote.
Linksys Techsupport were no help what so ever.

They were useless when I spoke to them about it back then too.
Got me to send them all sorts of Ethereal logs and other information and yet could come up with no plausible explanation as to what was going on.

Luckily the company i work for has pretty good relations with our supplier due to the amount of stuff we get from them so they have agreed to give us a refund for the WAG54GS's we have got from them.

We know the WAG354G works so we are going to get some of them in instead.

The funny thing is the WAG54G works so you would think the WAG54GS would work the same  The only difference is supposed to be the speedbooster  Well...apart from looking different.
