I just got some 14db aerials of ebay to help boost the signal in the house. But they don't fit a wrt54G router. I know, I know should have checked before hand.

The new aerials are SMA male connector, what is on the router and is it possible to get converters?

Yes it is. I can't remember where but I got a TNC aerial for RP-SMA on my Router. (I thought there was a single standard.)

It took some searching to find the site though. Was a general electrical parts place which looked very 'wholesaley' to me and not for home users wanting a single item.

I needed a "ReSMA Plug to ReTNC Socket"*, so it would probably be wise to assume you want a ReTNC plug to ReSMA socket.

*First link in google was the site, beginning with "s".

I got some of these, they look right

it's a tnc plug to sma socket

And yes the aerials are sma.

Adapters turned upto day. Thoroughly disappointed.

It's increased signal from 50% to 52%. Will have to have a bit more of a fiddle as I don't see how it has only given that the aerials are like almost 3 times longer and a fair bit fatter.

Have you pointed the aerials in such a way that the *side* of them are facing your wireless card/laptop? The signal is strongest at the sides, weakest at the tips (e.g. if the tip was pointing towards your wireless card, you'd have weakest signal).

Could well be the receiver on your laptop/pc being rubbish too.

check it's compatible

»» Routers that are known to work with Tomato:

* Linksys WRT54G v1-v4, WRT54GS v1-v4, WRT54GL v1.x, WRTSL54GS (no USB support)
* Buffalo WHR-G54S, WHR-HP-G54, WZR-G54, WBR2-G54, WBR-G54, WZR-HP-G54, WZR-RS-G54, WZR-RS-G54HP, WVR-G54-NF, WHR2-A54-G54, WHR3-AG54
* Asus WL500G Premium (no USB support), WL500GE
* Sparklan WX6615GT, Fuji RT390W, Microsoft MN-700

This will not work on Linksys WRT54G/GS v5 or newer WRT54G/GS routers.

Tomato is the best thing I've found this year in pc terms :)

:/

i think the wireless strength is around 4x stronger (from 20 to 80) in mine, the laptop works anywhere in my flat now, with multiple thick walls
