My router is at most 5 meters away from my pc and has 1 wall in between, the problem is transfering files from the pc i use to store files on (music and films) to my other pc's. when i trnansfer files from pc - pc the link speed goes to 1mb/s and transfering small mp3's takes agess!

Ive got a Linksys WAG54GS wireless router and all computers are connected using the Linksys Wirelss G wireless adapters. they all have speed booster and are all linksys so theres no chance of them not being compatable.. etc.

Aint got a clue whats rong and don't want to buy another router.. its only 4 months old and i payed £100 :( Any ideas?

Is there anything in between the computer and modem that could be interferring??
I've just moved my PC from upstairs to my living room where I thought it would improve the wireless connection but instead its dropped from a fairly steady 56mb/38mb minimum to reporting it as a 1mb connection now?!?!

I am using the same router as you and I can tell you a firmware upgrade doesnt do anything!!!

Let me know if you manage to figure anything out!

Ive thought of interferance but can't think of anything.. inbetween the computer and router is the kitchen and cant think of anything in there.

I got so sick of the poor/non-existent connection via the wireless, I now have a huge ethernet cable trailed through my house just to connect!! :(

Are the wireless adapters USB 1.0 or USB 2.0? I suppose if they are 1.0 for some reason, the speed would suffer, but not as much as you are saying!

No ther usb2, ive been thinking of buying another router just to use the LAN for in my pc room but then that still does not solve the problem of accessing files from my laptop. Ive had a play with the wireless channels aswell and that didnt help.

Tried a friends usb wireless adapter today and at his house it works fine but still the same problem at mine :/
