Hey all,

Bit of an odd one this. I installed Vista Ultimate x86 last week and all was great until last night when my internet connection kept dropping. I thought it was the signal from my router, but after moving that to an inch away it's still dropping.

Basically it works for between 5 to 25 minutes, and then drops. It will then find the WAN again, but is unable to connect to it.

I know it's not the router or the connection because my XP laptop and Xbox still work fine.

I've tried installing different drivers for the NIC but windows won't let me as it tells me it's already using the most up to date driver*

The linksys site says the NIC is fully Vista compatible.

Does anyone know what this could be before I go out and buy another card?

*This really ****** me off BTW, i don't care if Vista thinks it's using an up-to-date driver, I want full control over what drivers are used dammit! /rant

*EDIT*

I've also just discovered, when it does drop, disabling the card and then re-enabling it, without restarting the machine brings the connection back, but it does drop again later on.

Oh, also the connection is using WEP security.

I had a similar issue with my WAG160N and a Linksys WUSB300N. This comp is running WinXP Pro and drops the connection, although it seems slightly more stable on certain channels. However the same hardware on a Vista 64 Ultimate machine NEVER drops connection, neither does the macbook or the dell laptop.

I have tried a driver from Realtek who make the hardware inside the WUSB300N with little success. I am using WPA - was using WPA2PSK but that was even more unstable!

It is very annoying, might have to upgrade to Vista to try and solve the problem!

Thanks for the reply - it seems my problem was driver related. After spending 2 days googling I found a driver on the Broadcom website which seems to be working - it's been about 2 hours without dropping now anyway!

I don't know if you might be able to find another alternate driver for your card?

Thanks yeah I will try looking once more. Seems linksys drivers are rubbish!
