A mate of mine has kindly donated a router to my nephew so i can set him up wirelessly for the 360 he's getting for xmas. My mate grabbed it out his loft and said the router will need to be reset as it has his passwords/username on it.

How do I go about resetting the router? I have no manual otherwise I would consult that ;)

I also have no installation disc, the system I'm going to be using it with is WinXP will it auto detect or do i need to find a disc or drivers from somewhere?

Many thanks

Linksys routers are notorious for being a pain in the rear to hard-reset.

The following instructions cured mine:
1) Unplug power cable
2) Hold reset button for 30-40 seconds
3) Plug the power cable in WHILST STILL HOLDING THE RESET BUTTON
4) Continue to hold the reset button for another 20 seconds.
5) At between 13-18 seconds the power light should flash furiously. If by 25 seconds the light hasn't flashed furiously, you've botched it and need to start again.
6) After each successful 'furious flash' try logging into the router with the default username and password (not a clue what this is for your model - try google).
7) If the default login doesn't work, go back to step one :)

You should be able to get the manual from the D-Link site.

There are no "drivers" needed to install a router. You just login to it's internal web page to configure it. (http:\\192.168.1.1 or http:\\192.168.0.1) Username: Admin Password: admin or password

Any questions, then ask back here and no doubt you will get a quick answer. :D

Basically - that router just needs a Username and Password to login to your ISP supplier (nick these from whatever USB modem is currently in use to connect to the ISP). The router will probally auto detect the connection type.

With the Wireless - make sure you setup Encryption to keep the neighbours off the network. WPA-PSK is the strongest encryption (I assume the XBox 360 supports this)

Good Luck :D
