since im getting more and mroe frustrated with my netgear router, and i now have some money to spend on a new router, i was thinking about getting one of the linksys ones but have a few questions.

is it still possible to get the older versions of the routers? since i notice the latest versions have less ram and flash according to wikipedia, and since i want to try install linux onto it, i would prefer i got a old version that has more mem/flash. Also, if i do get ones of these routers and put some linux routing software onto it, would there be enough space left over to run irssi on the router too as a irc proxy?

my final question is, what model should i go for? since theres like 5 or so different models of WRT54, and they each have multiple versions.

Im assuming you are on cable hence the WRT models of the Linksys range your looking at.

I have a WRT54GL using a custom HyperWRT + thibor 15c firmware - current uptime is 79 days (from when it arrived) and nothing seems to kill it - multiple machines running online games, bittorrent or anything.

The WRT54GL gets the thumbs up from me :)
