Linksys WRT54GC

LO all, my m8 has just bought a linksys WRT54gC broadband router.
He is on a NTL cable connection, he has the router connected to the ethernet port on the modem and the computer connected into port 1 on the router.

When configuring the router he chose the automatic configuration meaning that the router acts as the DHCP server, but it just keeps timing out and we cannot gain access to the internet.

Im not very good at explaining problems so if u need more info just ask.

Can anyone help?

Does the machine get an IP from the router, and is the router getting an IP from NTL?

The machone gets an ip from the router but the router gets no ip from NTL.

have you tried reseting the modem? they can be funny about swapping between router and pc connections. whenever i do it i have to reset the modem to get them talking.

not at all. its not obvious that it could be the modem - had me stumped the first time lol
