I didn't know where to post this so if it's in the wrong section can a mod move it to the right one please :)

So this isn't actually about the WRT54GL but the Tomato firmware..
Until quite recently, i've never heard of the tomato firmware but realised, after reading some things by chance (MM mainly), that quite a lot of people flash it to this firmware.. soo i was wondering what about this firmware is better?
I read some of the features and stuff but i'm not a network techie.. so a simpler explanation of what the main differences are would be great. Any performance gain for 'normal' users?
My connection is 20mb Virgin Media if that makes any difference.

Stock firmware means the router performs like you would expect - a mid (nearing the lower side these days) range consumer/home router. Tomato and other custom firmware gives it the features and performance of a mid range professional router costing hundreds. As said it makes it a lot more stable, enables tons of new features, offers a much better interface and more. I've got 2 and I couldn't use them on stock firmware personally.
