OK here is the scenario.

I'm moving into a shared house which has free wireless broadband setup with a netgear router, I can't change this part of the setup and I can't run any cables around the house. Now I want to use this wireless but at the same time I want my laptop and PC to be able to talk to each other with better speeds than wireless. Also, my main PC does not have wireless.

So, i'm taking my linksys router with me and what i'm planning to do is use the wireless on the linksys in client mode (sveasoft firmware), therefore giving the linksys internet access. This works, i'm testing it with a spare wireless router, however there is a problem.

Any PC plugged into the linksys can't talk to a PC on the wireless network, this would be handy to have as sometimes i will be using the laptop on the wireless, plus it makes it impossible to port forward etc.

I've tried changing the IP ranges so they are all on 192.168.0.1 > but this doesn't work at all. As far as I can tell it's because the wireless in client mode treats it as a WAN interface and so doens't translate dhcp or anything else useful.

I also tried changing the linksys from gateway mode to router mode but that doesn't work either. Is there anyway to do what I want? Maybe static routing? I've reached the fringe of my, rather basic, networking knowledge :D

THanks

Upgrade. I'm currently running v1.2RC3c, and it's (as far as I can see) fine.
IIRC there's a more recent stable release than v1.0.

Whether it fixes your problem, I dunno. For what it's worth, IIRC Berserker had a setup like that (WRT54GS with the wireless in client mode and bridged with the switch ports).

Other thing that might be worth looking at is the VLAN settings.

thanks tolien, i'll try and find a newer firmware for it. I did have a poke around with the vlan settings but all i could see for the wireless side of it was already set to lan

I got it working using DD-WRT v23 SP1 Final (05/16/06) std, which is very good btw, and client bridged mode.

Thanks again.
