I bought a Linksys x3000 last week and it seems to have performance issues. When i stream a video online e.g. iplayer/tvcatchup, using 100-120kbps my ping to the router goes through the roof. This also affects the other machine on the network. Even though it's not using my full LAN speed or even internet speed (8mb adsl connected at 5.7mb) I can't even open the web interface to the router while streaming. I've turned off the firewall and filtering which has helped a bit but it still seems to struggle :(

Are you using wireless? If so and you have poor signal, that could be the cause due to it saturating the available bandwidth.
Either connect using ethernet or reposition your router / aerial etc

nope wired into a gig linksys switch and then connected by a 200mb linksys dlan converter to the router

Rebooting worked temporarily but as soon as i'm downloading even at 300kbps i can no longer open web pages including the web interface to the router until I stop downloading. With the firewall now turned off the ping while downloading has dropped to around 4-500ms.

If streaming causes it to crap out it's almost certainly traffic related rather than a fault. First, make double sure that you're streaming low def, make sure no one else is doing things at the same time.
Check any QoS settings on the router as no one type of traffic should be allowed to swamp the conection if that's all set right.

I've just reloaded the firmware on again, i'm currently downloading at 300kbps and streaming tvcatchup and the ping isn't breaking 10ms

10ms is still way too high for ethernet, it may be worth removing one of the devices (e.g. switch) from your setup (purely for testing purposes) to see if that makes any difference. As a long-shot I'd also try different network cables if that makes no difference.

Tried to stream Dr Who in HD from bbc iplayer just now and it's happening again :(

I was only downloading at 180kbps which wasn't even enough to stream it properly but as soon as it stopped the web interface opened straight away

I'll try wiring directly into router tomorrow and see if that works.

ok i wired directly into the router and it still does it. I also connected up my work laptop and it's pings are 2000ms too.

If I ping the router while i'm trying to stream HD videos the ping goes above 3000ms and then starts timing out.

QoS is disabled.
Dos protection i've not seen the settings for that.

I've contacted Linksys regarding this, the guy I spoke to wasn't really sure as I've already tried everything he suggested. He said they'd look into it and to call back once I had the router in front of me. I'll do this tonight as their support is 24/7

It seems the new router has the same issues and has to be constantly rebooted.

I don't know if it's the hardware that's just not up to basic downloading or the firmware just isn't good enough being v1.0.0.1 :(

Will phone them again tomorrow and see if I can find out if these are known issues and see whether they want me to RMA it back....again

Get the billion 7800n. :D

I think that might be the way forward, just been looking at my phone bill and seen all the charges for phoning their support and o2 for the internet settings. Could have just paid the extra and got the Billion from the start.

Linksys have said this router is normally pretty good, not sure how i've managed to get 2 faulty ones :(

This is still going on, Linksys support is woeful at best, i've spoken to so many different people and after sending countless screen shots, logs and config exports. In 8 months all they've come up with is turn off the WMM, shame I don't even use the wireless. Their "senior engineers" have planned to call me several times and not once have they phoned me at the correct time and instead leave me an answer phone message 2-3 hours either side of the planned time wondering why I haven't answered.

I've replaced everything in my network in fault finding this problem and the only thing that fixes the problem is to replace the router, which they won't do (As the problem is similar to the first router). - Although it's got to a point I no longer want a replacement as A. their support is uselss and B. this products is even more uselss than their support. - I've had to reboot my router 4 times at the weekend

Is 8 months long enough now to give them an altermatum to either fix my router in the next 2 weeks or give me a refund ?
