Hi guys,

I have several linux boxes, fedora & ubuntu that I'm using in a production env.

I'm quite keen to get something akin to the windows server 2008 r2 backup running on these servers each night.

I'd like to be able to boot from usb or cd on a failed server, select my server image backup nas, select the servers img and restore the server to that image.

What's the best/easiest/free way to do this?

Any recommended apps?

thanks in advance,

tristan

virtualise the servers and backup their virtual disks, easier no?

Sadly no. I need the power of dedicated hardware.

For now, I'm doing a dd | to gzip to simply copy sda1 and compress it, save that out to a nas and that should cover me in most situations.

I'll have to revisit this when I've got more time to looking into partition table backup and mare metal, but it'll have to wait.

thanks for the advance anyway.
