Linux based server and ntfs

ok im wondering whether to change from windows home server to a linux server operating system...a few questions...the hdds that i use now are full of content will they work in a linux server with out changing the format....can i use nzb and torrent clients....also will windows 7 comunicate with it doing remote access....just a few questions i am looking to get answered before i start playing about thanks....also can you use a remote desktop program like for whs 11

You'll be able to access NTFS content. You'll need free space on one of the drives for the necessary Linux partitions.

Linux can read fat32/ntfs but I would look at migrating off and onto a native filesystem format long term

native filesystem is that what linux creates/

The native filesystem would be ext2 or journalled, ext3/ext4. There are others, xfs etc but I'm not sure if they are installed by default.
