Linux boot/splash screens

Ive just started playing with Linux and want to change the image shown as the background in LILO.
Has anyone got any good images suitable for LILO that i can use as a background/ I *think* they need to be 640x480 BMP's but dont know if that is a complete restriction or not?

It actually looks like it could be a fun thing to do- will have to have a shot with GRUB
