Hi.
I was wondering, is it possible to setup a Linux machine as an Internet Caching machine?

Specifically, our network here at work has all of its net traffic going through an ISA Proxy, then to the internet. What would be ideal would be a machine that i could plop inbetween the Proxy and the internet, that would cache everything thats incoming, speeding up net access.

Possible?

ISA is a caching proxy. What version do you have?
Not a clue. It runs Server2K3 and is a pain the rear.
Because even though i make new access rules in it to open specific ports/protocols, it wont open them!

I've not used ISA for 12 months but I'm sure it is a proxy caching accelerator.

The rules are complicated; I'd suggest purchasing some recommended reading material on ISA prior to binning it.

Squid is also very very good but I don't see the point in having two proxy servers because you can't get one to work.

We're not binning it though.

Thats good. Just get it working then. :p
It is.
Its just not doing what i want it to.
Ive been trying to open specific ports and whatnot for weeks and it wont do it!

ISA is capable of supporting the opening of ports.

Do you have have any whitepapers or setup guides for ISA?
None at all.
Chucked in at the deep end and said 'here you go, heres the network, this is whats wrong, fix all that, and fix whatever comes up'. :p
