Hello I want to buy a laptop for general use browsing e-mail movies youtube netflix I will run linux, i was wondering if a i3 laptop with 8 gb ram and a ssd ok for my needs. My budget is 600 gbp.

Ps: i found this LENOVO IdeaPad 330s for 470 gbp it has 4 gb ram i5 8th gen and 128 ssd seems like a great option. Can i upgrade the ram later on a budget laptop ?

Edit: would a refurbished laptop be a good option ?

I don't have experience of the IdeaPad range of Lenovo's. But if you're OK buying a slightly older used model that I would highly recommend either a Thinkpad T series of a Dell XPS. Dell sell XPS machines with Linux on them and Thinkpads are renowned for having fantastic Linux support. Of the two I would personally lean towards a Thinkpad because I prefer their keyboards. But The XPS looks nicer in most peoples opinion. I would budget to replace the battery in either if it's very old. The T series comes in T4** (14" screen) and T5** (15" screen).

I run Linux on a Thinkpad T530. It's quite old now and as a result it's chunky and has an inefficient processor. But it's fantastic for the relatively little money I spent.

I have heard that Ideapads are built far more poorly and with slightly more obscure hardware than the Thinkpad range. So if you do buy an Ideapad then I suggest googling that specific model to ensure no issues with Linux.
