Linux Low Graphics Problems

Hey. So I've just got Linux, but before I actually install it, I decided to play around with the Live CD. Boot it up, and it says it cannot find my Graphics Card (8800GT, btw), having done this, it gives me a low-graphics CLI. How do I get the graphics working and get a GUI? The version's Ubuntu 7.10, btw. Thanks in advance.

On the boot-up screen I need to remove the parameter "splash" in order to get it working with my 8800GT. When I installed it, I then removed it permanently from /boot/grub/menu.lst too.
