Linux MCE

I am interested in having a play with Linux MCE and would want to use it for these functions:

- DVD Player/Recorder
- Internet
- Free View
- Something akin to Sky+ where you can pause live TV etc and series link

Now I am Linux novice, but am assured that MCE is noob friendly.

My question is what sort of hardware would I need to do this? Specifically for the Sky+ type features and to get freeview in the box?

Is their any hardware I should avoid in terms of Linux compatability?

Think I need to explain what I would like to do a little more clearly.

By Sky+ features I dont mean actually sky+, what I mean is that I would simply want Freeview with the ability to record, rewind and pause (like Sky+).

MythTV is what I was looking for, cheers guys
