Hi

Is there any kind of list out there for must-have linux apps?

Also does anyone know where I could find a media player that acts like the funky one that Macs have (where you can flick through album covers etc?)

Thanks

Well suggestions for apps in this thread would be a good start :D

I would say:

Automatix- Very good package/ codec manager
Beryl- Enhances desktop environment with 3D GUI and OpenGL- powered effects
Conky- Easy to install and extremely customisable info panel
Swiftfox- Firefox plugin- greatly increases browser speed

Any more? :D

I quite like Amarok too, seems pretty good but I'm still not able to get it to put my podcasts onto my nano. Works with transferring mp3s though, I probably just need to work on it a bit more.

Not sure I would put Compiz/Beryl/aiglx and all those kinds of things down as "must haves". They certainly look nice and are good to shut up the Vista zealots but they don't add any functionality and I found I just switched the effects off after a few days.
True- I just reel'd off the first few things I had installed. Like I said in my post they were only suggestions :)

Anything else very welcome

Wow just got Amarok working under Gnome- very nice

All it needs is the iTunes-style browsing by covers thing- very nice though :)
