Hi, This has probably been posted many times but basically what are your linux must have's, I want to try divx converting and utilising the dual core on my rig.

Also will the below rig be o.k. for it

X2 4400+
2gb DDR500 Corsiar
DFI Lanparty motherboard
ATI X800pro
2 x Western Digital Raptors (RAID 0)

Anyway what do you reckon?

Well i basically want to try benchmarking software and also want to convert dvd to divx on it, Can i use the dual core of my x2? and the 64bit capability, im installing suse 10.1

Thanks

O.k. ive download suse 10.1 64 bit version and installed it, All installs fine but when it restarts it says it has a boot problem, I am using SATA drive could that be it, I would have thought if it see's the drive to install it then why not boot from it?

Please help, i really want to give linux a try but its not looking good at the moment.

Does this mean it is 64bit and using smp?

Linux linux-rmlz 2.6.16.13-4-smp #1 SMP Wed May 3 04:53:23 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Cool, So now i need to take advantage of it, What programs are there to take advantage of both 64bit and dual processing?

Also the graphics seems a bit slow on 3d, I have an X800Pro PCI-Express card in it

Thanks

O.k. ive read that but i have never used the terminal before, How can i open the file in the terminal when it is on my desktop?

o.k. i thought it might be slightly like windows, The only porblem is that the console opens up on..

mainpc@linux-rmlz:/>

to get to the folder i would need to go into the home folder first then go to the desktop.

any idea's

mainpc@linux-rmlz:/> run is
bash: run: command not found
mainpc@linux-rmlz:/> run pwd
bash: run: command not found

Is that what you were asking me to do
?

Oh o.k. please bear with me i really have never used this before

mainpc@linux-rmlz:/> ls
bin dev home lib64 mnt proc sbin subdomain tmp var
boot etc lib media opt root srv sys usr
mainpc@linux-rmlz:/> pwd
/

Oh man, it says i have to be in super user mode, none of them commands work in it and the first prompt i get is

linux-rmlz:~ #

thanks for the help guys all installing now, anyone know a site that will let me know the commands of the terminal?
