Hi, I'm looking to have a bit of a play around with Linux. Can anyone advise which flavour to go for ? I don't have any specific plans for it, just looking to learn a bit about it all.

I will be dual booting with Vista 64.

WUBI is a windows application in which will allow you to install Ubuntu without having to worry about paritioning / boot loaders etc. It can be easily removed via Add / Remove programs.

If you've not used Linux before its a nice tool to get you up and running.

It lets you install it from inside windows i think...

Id personally get ubuntu and install it separatly (yeah little more dangerous if your not following instructions propperly) but its a much better way of actually playing with linux :) (im not a WUBI fan...)

Edit also too slow

Thanks, might take a look at that, although I was planning to use a partition on my seconday HDD, with paragon boot manager.

Play with a live CD first or install it inside a VM if you don't want to muck up existing installs while you just have a go first.

Went for full installation of Ubuntu. Got it installed and posting from it now !

Not tried booting into Windows yet though:eek:

Just had a nightmare though. Played around with paragon boot manager, and the thing wouldn't boot into anything. Just gave a scrolling screen of "GRUB"'s.

Spent the last 2 hours trying to recover. Thank the Lord for my Acronis c: partition backup ! :D

Had to restore the MBR, now can't boot Ubuntu.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Excellent,l that did the trick. Anyone know how to configure the Grub boot loader. I need the default to be my Windows OS so as not to confuse the kids !
