Eeek, I now realise my error, I installed SMP into the system rather than the user, if that makes any sense.

Anyway, I shall uninstall it in a couple of hours time when it's finished it's current job, and then reinstall into the user part.

Any idea how to overide the permissions to add '-oneunit' to the config, I can get into the terminal as 'root' but not the GUI?

Cheers dude :)

I managed to get 'root' access in the terminal like that, but the problem is I don't know the commands to edit the relevant files.

I managed to stop the client after it uploaded the finished unit using:

sudo /etc/init.d/foldingathome stop

Then the same installer I used to uninstall it.

I've now followed the instructions on the FaH Linux Forum and have installed it to my user account. Just need some minor help to get it running as a service, I must be doing something wrong...

No I didn't use Finstall :o

I used the manual install guide on the FaH Forums :o

What's worse, after hours of command line gibberish I still can't get it to run as a service.

I shall follow your link and when this unit has finished reinstall it using the guide.

I have learnt my lesson.:)

I'm not doing too bad then :) this is just my 2nd install, the 3rd will be tomorrow.

After that, it's just a matter of getting Fahmon to see it.............

Sorted

Yippee, the third installation has gone very well, thanks to the guide, and everything seems to be working.

I had to Change (having probs with C's at the moment ) the folder name from 'foldingathome' to 'folding' in order to make it a shared folder for Fahmon to see it and I wasn't sure if samba was installed or not so I installed that too.

Great stuff.
