Just about to upgrade my pc,moving from amd to intel so i think i will be doing a fresh install of windows. The only programme i want to keep is steam on one hard drive and i was gonna put an o/s on another, with an ssd as a cache drive,i know nothing about linux at all, will this work with steam or shall i just buy windows 8,

You're not very clear on what you're trying to do here, you mention doing a fresh install of Windows so I imagine there's no need for Windows 8 unless it has something specific you need / want. Are you planning to set up a dual boot with Linux and use Linux alternatives to Windows programmes?

As for Steam, it's coming to Linux hopefully soonish.

Ok, I was assuming you had a retail copy of Windows. It's up to you really, you could try Linux for a while and still have the option to purchase a copy of Windows? Maybe download a live version of Linux such as openSUSE that runs straight from a cd / dvd / usb stick and see what you think? (make sure you choose the right option).
