So, I was on my Facebook this morning, and noticed a rant from what I would say was a self-confirmed Windows hater. Why do a lot of people who use Linux, hate so much on Windows. This guy clearly has an issue with his installation and/or hardware yet seems to always want to blame Windows.

The rant from his post:

Procedure for booting my computer in Windows 7:
1. Press power button
2. Watch windows load and then suffer a blue screen of death
3. Google how to start safe mode because they removed the instructions from the normal boot process
4. Hold F8 and start safe mode
5. Type password using the on-screen keyboard because it the password screen defaults to the wrong keyboard layout and doesn't give an option to change to the main one.
6. Go to device manager and disable NVidia graphics card
7. Restart into normal windows
8. Type password using the on-screen keyboard again
9. Go back to device manager and re-enable graphics card
I have to do this every time I want to reboot or boot from power off.
Remind me why windows is meant to be the easy option again?

Does anyone else get really annoyed by these people?

Best ignored. You end up in a religious war and you are never going to change their minds anyway.

I use both for work and at home, but my default is Windows.

Yeah, us Linux users hate them too.
They managed to get one system running how they want and haven't got any patience to do it again with another one. They would rather let everyone know the troubles they are having by claiming the other is more superior.
They are trolls, nothing more. And you get them from any OS.
Find a Windows vs Linux video on youtube and sift through the comments, you will have fanboys both sides, they are all just as bad as each other.

I never understand anyone who uses Linux as a desktop experience personally (unless all you do is play mp3s and light web browsing) - half the stuff I do isn't even possible on Linux or far more clunky (I have extensive experience with Debian including creating a highly customised from the ground up x-windows build using fluxbox).

Tell him to chmod -R 777 / or chmod -R -x / while logged in as SU lols then complain about Windows... (DO NOT DO THIS).

Linux is very versatile so don't agree with your statement at all, only real weakness is Windows gaming in my experience on Linux but then it can run some Windows game via Wine, not all but then you have Linux on Steam as well ,however nowhere near the size of Windows game list.
I use Linux and Windows all the time ,to be fair I only use Windows for gaming other wise I would be on Linux all the time, end of the day both have their uses ie "Pros and Cons".

Both are easier to use nowadays and yes that is more true for Linux(compared to Linux in the old days),trolls you get on both sides so nothing new there.

Btw if you want to get on ease of specific installation,Linux distros like Mint,Ubuntu are very simple to install and actually install more useful programs then Windows, you have to go on the net and download them for yourself with Windows, you or I can argue Linux comes with a more complete package on initial installation so less hunting for those extra downloads, throw in Live Linux DVD/USB where you can run Linux via DVD etc without installing and you can see where I'm coming from, also a lot of Linux distros allow you to do dual or triple boot installs for example different Linux distros on same HD or Windows and Linux dual boot etc without you having much knowledge, yes I have done this myself.

Oh you can do it but IMO a lot of stuff your just making your life unnecessarily difficult doing it on Linux - not hating on Linux I've spent many hours leveraging the power of webmin, etc. and for a long time ran it side by side with Windows desktop wise.

EDIT: To be fair my desktop use is quite different to many - one thing I spent quite a lot of time doing for instance is working with or developing modding tools for different games, etc.

I run Linux as a desktop OS. The only thing it can't do well is games. And that's changed with Valve getting behind it.

If ARMA 3 ran without problems on Linux, my computing needs would be perfect.

My Linux distros were actually easier to install driver wise then most of my Windows installations,it found all my hardware and I had no drivers to install on Linux.

As to difficult well I use it same way as Windows ie mouse point and click and keyboard.

I guess you could argue you can make it easy or complicated to use but then that depends on the user in question.

Sidenote I can't wait to see all those Windows users complaining and trolling about Win10 when it gets released officially, some things don't change with Windows users here and other forums ;) ,FYI I actually like and have no problem with Win10.

Installing Windows is a pain in the arse. The latest Linux kernel supports all my hardware across three separate individual systems all with unique hardware configurations.

Each one would need independently installed drivers from driver discs provided with components with a Windows install. And it takes ****ing FOREVER to update. Hours you can spend downloading Windows updates after a fresh install. For. Each. Machine.

And then there's the bundling of a bunch of outdated libraries with individual programs or software instead of going with the shared libs method of doing things which just makes more sense and makes a system more secure.

Still, at least muh gaymes run gud.

Just have to ignore plebs like this. He has nothing else to complain about. You will probably see him post about his toaster one day

I was always disappointed when they get *BSD or Linux running on toasters, only to find they're not actually running on toasters. Getting either to run on nothing but filament... now that would be something to brag about.

Not really, Both windows & linux have advantages but I don't get upset if someone is hating/complaining about either.

I normally just ignore them unless they message me directly.

It does get annoying when people reply to windows related threads with "just install linux" or linux threads saying "install windows"
(this is just an example)

Brand loyalty of any kind is daft, I use Windows and Linux, in the past I was an Apple engineer, who cares - use what's best.

I'd argue the same blinkers stop some from using Windows 8/8.1 because someone else told them it was rubbish, yet I've been quite happy on it since it came out.

I like Windows. Linux can be a pain imo. A bit like dos, there is always some command you need to run instead of it being easily accessible in the gui.

That being said I like the power of the command line, but if they want market penetration then making it easier to configure is a must without dumbing it down too much.

Windows can be a pain as well, but it is supported for the majority of software and that is the real winner. If Linux had better software support including games, I would likely move over.
