Hi guys,

I wonder if you could help me. I'm attempting to get WPA working in kubuntu, however, following this guide ( https://wiki.kubuntu.org/community/KubuntuWPA ) whenever I get to the step - sudo aptitude install knetworkmanager wpasupplicant - I get this error:

Code:
kol@kol-laptop:~$ sudo aptitude install knetworkmanager
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Building tag database... Done
Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "knetworkmanager"
No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.

I've then tried other ways of downloading the knetworkmanager but can't figure i out! Is there anythin obvious I am missing?

I will stress, I am an absolute newbie at linux. I've dabbled, but I am very very inexperienced ;) Any advice you could offer would be awesome and appreciated.

Perhaps its in a repository you haven't enabled yet. Try enabling all the repos in /etc/apt/sources.list, run sudo apt-get update, and see if it works then.

Hi Billy! I knew just after I restarted I'd get a reply. Right, in the end I had to edit one of my files so I could download the new repositories in adept. Once I had done this, I was able to install knetworkmanager, reboot and now I'm just about to set the network up in it (now shows wpa personal! :D) fingers crossed I can get it to work.

However, whilst I am in here, when I install on my D: drive, grub still shows windows XP on my other partition but crashes whenever I attempt to load it now. Oh well, I've mounted the NTFS partition in kubuntu so I can still access all my work and reports. Who knows, I may not need windows ;)

Cheers for your help bud.

Any time, sir. :)

Are you enjoying the new system?

Very much so! It's a learning curve but I do enjoy it. Lots of useful features. Just need to get my mp3s to play and I'm happy.

Good stuff, just waiting for the page to load. Anything that makes a process simple to me is perfect :D

edit - awesome little tool. The installer on the site didn't work intially, so I just did it through the console. Now installing plenty of little bits and bobs :D Albeit my wireless still doesn't work, but wired does which is fair enough. Damn 2200B/G connection.

Cheers Una. I've tried beep which worked OK, then crashed :S

Anyhow, on a side note, got WPA working on kubuntu now. Turned out my router had reset itself and turned off the wireless! doh! :/
