how good is this benchmark tool as a quick stability test before i bother to prime? how much memory should i test with?

or is there anything else you could suggest?

oh my you had to go there, well 50% of the forum will say you need to run your system in linx is not stable until you have nearly blown you chip into hell. the other 50% will agree prime is fine and after a couple of weeks  :)

you can always try occt aswell

so i can be pleased that when i just ran linx with my cpu @4gig temps only hit 68c on air?

im too impatient. ive got better things to do than worry bout my pc for 8 hours! lol

how much memory should i test with as a general rule?

It's quicker and stresses the system more, which in my books is a better way to test stability. But sometimes prime over long periods picks up things a quick blast on linx doesn't. I use both when I reach the clock I was aiming for.

LinX is my fav tool for stability testing, it's quicker as mentioned already, but it isn't the be all and end all, there is nothing better than to just use your PC for its intended purpose as a test for stability.

However, it is a great tool for checking if your o/c is stable or not.

If you are too impatient to stability test, then I recommend you run at stock speeds to avoid data loss and corruption.

Hey Nodiggidy123,

LinX is a pretty heavy weight hardware diagnostic and is a most welcome addition to the toolkit! :)

If your system and cooling can cope with the LinX stress/heat without blue-screening or rebooting your well on your way to a stable system!

Personally I use a whole bunch of diagnostics before I feel comfy that some custom settings are good and robust, Prime95 Blend still seems a great diagnostic and even though it takes longer it seems to get *deeper* into a computers subsystem and route out errors that LinX/IBT misses!

I agree stress testing in a bit boring but I don't see that it's a problem for someone to leave a Prime95 *blend* or another diagnostic test running overnight? :D

Here is a screenshot from OcUK *newguy* 1979Damian where he has set IBT to run 2500 loops taking approx 13.5 hours!

20-25 runs of LinX using at least 2gb of RAM is usually what I use these days for stress testing

LinX just stresses the CPU by a huge amount and doesn't test memory (increasing memory just makes it more intense).

Use Prime95 blend to test out CPU + memory stability. As said you can just run it overnight.

Most people seem to get the idea that 20 is the magical number of loops to run on LinX but if you look at the readme it says 50-100 loops (not sure if it quoted memory size).
I personally tested 50 loops at max memory (3.5Gb out of 4Gb was used).

You can also run OCCT and set memory to max (no point in running the linpack test as it is basically LinX).

Ultimately if you are just willing to test out your CPU overclock then LinX is the best as it's the quickest and most stressful. But be sure to use Prime95 blend to test memory too for overall stability.
