Lion

The best idea would really be not having to mess around with the App store at all.
This is the OS software, not a game of Angry Birds. I think it's a bit ridiculous to have to do it this way.
I'd like a disk with the software on it and no messing around.

Apple are paving the way to go optical drive less, the fact that all their recent software launches and OS have been solely on the App Store seem to point to this.

I wouldn't expect an optical drive in any of the next releases of macbook/macbook pro etc. they'll probably dedicate further space to the battery.

Once installed, Lion creates a recovery partition that allows you to reinstall without the disc. Won't help if you're replacing a hard drive, but will do for people just wanting a fresh install.

I really dislike this method of OS management. Its seems to be going back to the recovery partition days that manufacturers used to put on windows PCs.

I want to just have the OS on my SSD and if I want to reinstall, I want to be able to format the drive and reinstall nice and easily from the disk, not some waste of space recovery partition.

Really? What about those of us who like to burn CDs to MP3s and watch DVDs on our laptops?

I wouldn't mind the removal of the dvd drive as you can use usb drives but to only allow a snowleopard > lion or lion > lion recovery is bordering on taking the ****.

Apple don't think you should use DVDs :D they have the itunes store for all your film and tv show needs ;) and you can always buy an ipod for your music :p

I believe you can burn the Lion OS to a DVD, I wonder can you create an image to a USB stick?
