Lionel Messi - The 47 goals

Is it just me, or do Barca look positively bored when they score goals? You can almost hear the groans from here!

To be fair when you get that used to scoring goals, and the fans get that used to seeing goals scored, it's really only the goals in big games that get the fans cheering. With all respect to smaller teams, as a United fan I'm obviously going to be more excited about a goal against Chelsea, Arsenal or against the big teams in the CL because you expect a tough game against them. Whereas against the small teams you expect United to win, and so a goal is more an expectation than a surprise.

I'm sure it's the same for the Barca players and fans.

He just makes every other footballer look average. The first 20 or so goals there I was thinking 'crikey this is a good video of all of messis best goals' then I remembered that it was just all of the goals from this season.

Magic.

Whoever shines in the world cup will probably get it, which if Argentina can string a decent few performances together could also be Messi.

The WC has nothing to do with the world player of the year aka Ballon D'Or i think its called.

Messi won it last yr and id be very surprised if he didnt win it again this yr...hes been by far the best player on the planet this yr.

Ballon D'or is simply a case of picking the best player in the world for that year. The world cup has a massive bearing on that and there tends to be a large bias for someone that does well in the world cup.

Just look at past winners on world cup years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballon_d'Or

2006 - Cannavaro
2002 - Ronaldo
1998 - Zidane
1994 - Hristo Stoichkov
1990 - Lothar Matthäus

etc.

Remember that they only allowed non europeans to start winning after 1997. Otherwise in 1994 it would probably have been Romario, best player of the world cup. Hristo Stoichkov was the golden boot winner though.

Like to see him try that in the Premier League. I'm not denying his obvious talent but Spanish defenders and refs are VERY soft compared to the Premier Leagues. Not to mention that the gap between the top 2 teams and the others was a staggering 25 points. There really isn't much competition in La Liga.

Still, he is currently the best player in the world.
